The momentary awe we experience in nature is surpassed by the eternal awe experienced with God. God’s people find security in the one who surpasses all.

The movie Sneakers turned up on streaming service Binge today.
It has an all star cast, along with faces who were not stars at the time but have become more well-known since, and a very famous face making a cameo toward the end.
It’s an enjoyable romp, and everyone works their craft with skill, though not really straying too much from their archetypical characters.
I’m pretty sure Dan Aykroyd provided his own conspiracy theories.

Another notable part is the late James Horner’s soundtrack which featured Branford Marsalis bringing a distinctive expression with his soprano saxophone.
During an eleven minute part of the movie featuring a break-in there are crashing piano chords which I’m sure I’ve heard in lots of other movies as well.
I can’t quite clear up whether they’re the same chords, but they certainly are memorable, as is the movie.

No more secrets.

A recent side project has been perfecting nachos.
Given the relatively recent creation of the dish it’s not really a matter of authenticity as much as trying to ensure a satisfying distribution of ingredients, balance of flavours and textures, and, of course, crunch.

Mental Floss posted a video and accompanying article providing the history of nachos, and explores its most basic ingredients.
While it may appear quintessentially Mexican, the best known elements of the dish represent a fusion of tradition tradition adapting to newer cultures.

So, it took one week of 2021 for 2020 to seem like the good old days.
If this was just a Boxing Day to New Years’ Sale choice we might be rummaging through the waste bin looking for the receipt with a bad case of buyer’s remorse.
Good thing we weren’t putting all our hopes for our sense of security and well-being on the first page of a new calendar.
There is a natural assumption that the pace of unprecedented weirdness would slow down instead of speeding up.
Oh well, bring on February.
