Tim Chester and EMU Music have composed a song based on the Apostles’ Creed.
Trying to bring a creedal expression in song to the church is worth encouraging.

The lyrics:
1.
I believe in God the Father, mighty and eternal Lord
He alone is the Creator, forming all things by his word
I believe in our Lord Jesus, God’s own Son who came to earth
Born a man, by the Spirit, by a virgin given birth
Chorus:
Sing praise to the Father, to the Spirit and the Son
Sing praise to our holy God, forever three in one
2.
I believe that Jesus suffered, on the cross he bore my shame
I believe that he was buried, then triumphant rose again
Glorified, he has ascended, seated at the Father’s side
He will come again in judgement, justice will be satisfied
Chorus.
3.
I believe the Holy Spirit comes to us from Christ above
I believe the church is holy, one communion in God’s love
I believe I am forgiven through the sacrifice of Christ
I believe in resurrection and in everlasting life
Chorus.

Heidelberg Catechism – Lords’ Day 10

27.
Q. What do you understand by the providence of God?
A. The almighty and ever-present power of God whereby he still upholds, as it were by his own hand, heaven and earth together with all creatures, and rules in such a way that leaves and grass, rain and drought, fruitful and unfruitful years, food and drink, health and sickness, riches and poverty, and everything else, come to us not by chance but by his fatherly hand.

28.
Q. What advantage comes from acknowledging God’s creation and providence?
A. We learn that we are to be patient in adversity, grateful in the midst of blessing, and to trust our faithful God and Father for the future, assured that no creature shall separate us from his love, since all creatures are so completely in his hand that without his will they cannot even move.

A life without grief is a life without love.
And life without love is no life at all.

From It’s OK That You’re Not OK.

We grieve because we love. Grief is part of love.
There was love in this world before your loss, there is love surrounding you now, and love will remain beside you, through all of life that is yet to come. The forms will change, but love itself will never leave. It’s not enough. And it’s everything.

It’s OK That You’re Not OK, Megan Devine, Sounds True, 2017, pg. 229.

Of all things, there was a police random breath testing unit working outside the church at 1.00pm today. I’ve never ever seen them there before.

Funny time. Funny place. We’re nowhere near licensed premises and there were no functions on that I can think of.

Wonder if they’ll be back Sunday.
