Heidelberg Catechism – Lord’s Day 16

40.
Q. Why did Christ have to suffer death?
A. Because the righteousness and truth of God are such that nothing else could make reparation for our sins except the death of the Son of God.

41.
Q. Why was he “buried”?
A. To confirm the fact that he was really dead.

42.
Q. Since, then, Christ died for us, why must we also die?
A. Our death is not a reparation for our sins, but only a dying to sin and an entering into eternal life.

43.
Q. What further benefit do we receive from the sacrifice and death of Christ on the cross?
A. That by his power our old self is crucified, put to death, and buried with him, so that the evil passions of our mortal bodies may reign in us no more, but that we may offer ourselves to him as a sacrifice of thanksgiving.

44.
Q. Why is there added: “He descended into hell”?
A. That in my severest tribulations I may be assured that Christ my Lord has redeemed me from hellish anxieties and torment by the unspeakable anguish, pains, and terrors which he suffered in his soul both on the cross and before.

I’ve written before how this song comes to mind most years on this date.
Twenty years seems both a long time and a no time at all.

I’m not a native here.
But I love it here.
I believe I’ve found
A fuller sense of place.

Somebody Feed Phil The Book is not to be considered literally.
But he willingly eats the foods that the wide variety of people he meets offer to him.

When I saw that there was a book inspired by Phil Rosenthal’s travel/food series Somebody Feed Phil I pre-ordered a copy there and then.
It arrived yesterday.
A combination of background to production, further stories, some recipes, and lots of remembrances of Phil’s late parents Max and Helen. And more.

The AFL are providing giving Melbourne a reason to wallow in misery by conducting the entire round of games in Adelaide.
Brisbane and Sydney won’t even notice.
The city of Adelaide are committed to going to watch a bunch of games they couldn’t care less about because they need to prove the whole weekend is judged a success.

In the NRL there’ll be a bunch of games being played who knows where in a round so one sided the only interest being which game will throw up the upset. I’m sort of figuring it will be North Queensland.
