This week we commenced a new sermon series, returning to the narrative of the Old Testament at the beginning of 2 Kings.
We’re going to spend ten weeks considering a historical narrative that was put together to minister to a group of people in who were feeling distant from their heritage and how God encourages generations of his people to look to him for consistent guidance and protection.

A. The Spirit applies to us the redemption purchased by Christ, by working faith in us,1 and thereby uniting us to Christ in our effectual calling.2

Q What is effectual calling?
A Effectual calling is the work of God’s Spirit, whereby, convincing us of our sin and misery, enlightening our minds in the knowledge of Christ,3 and renewing our wills,4 he does persuade and enable us to embrace Jesus Christ,5 freely offered to us in the gospel.6
