God My King, I Will Extol You is a song based on Psalm 145 by Matt Searles, sung by Felicity Jones.
It is set to the tune DIM OND IESU, associated with Here Is Love, Vast As The Ocean.
It features on the newly released Album/EP In Return And In Rest.

This video features a devotion by Matt and the recording of the song, which starts at 6:12.

The lyrics:
1.
God my king, I will extol you
Bless your name forevermore
Every day, I’ll sing your goodness
Hymn the greatness of the Lord
You are praised through generations
Of your works we’ll always tell
We will praise your matchless goodness
Praise the God of Israel
2.
God is merciful and gracious
Slow to anger, rich in love
He is good to all his creatures
Showers blessings from above
All your works shall bless and thank you
Tell of all your mighty deeds
Celebrate your wondrous kingdom
You shall reign in majesty
3.
Lord your throne will last forever
You will reign from age to age
You are faithful to your promise
You are kind in all your ways
You uphold the weak and falling
Give your strength to weary feet
From you hand you pour forth blessing,
Satisfy our every need
4.
God is righteous to his promise
He is kind in all his ways
He is near to those who seek him
Yet the wicked casts away
He fulfils the good desire
Of his saints who fear his name
Let all people’s praise his goodness
And forever sing his praise

Q & A 103
Q What do we pray for in the third petition?
A In the third petition, which is, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven, we pray that God, by his grace, would make us able and willing to know, obey, and submit to his will in all things,1 as the angels do in heaven.2

*1 Psalm 19:14; Psalm 119; 1 Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 13:20-21.
*2 Psalm 103:20-21; Hebrews 1:14.

When the word of God is heard in preaching it always demands a response of movement. Continuing movement toward God, or a course correction to respond to God’s call.
Jesus ensured that listening to him would bring comfort to the faithful, but it is not about the faithful being comfortable.

From Will Willimon:

Preaching is difficult because of Jesus. The sermons he gives us are accountable to a different truth than that lived by nine out of ten Americans. If Jesus had ended his Sermon on the Mount with “Blessed are the lilies,” preaching would be easy. Alas, Jesus talked of turning the other cheek, forgiving enemies, and giving to all who ask, thereby making preaching perilous.

William H Willimon, Leading With The Sermon, Fortress Press, 2020, pgs 180.

In addition to being the better mediator between God and humanity, making all others redundant, Jesus is himself a better sacrifice able to effect an eternal redemption offered once, for all.

For those unable to join us at MGPC, the service will be live-streamed.
