Awake Were They Only / Welsh Carol – Christmas (Sunday) Songs 2017 Day 17

What is commonly called the Welsh Carol starts with the words ‘Awake Were They Only, Those Shepherds So Lonely‘.
I’ve been listening to it on a Christmas album by Linda Ronstadt that was released back in 2000.

The Lyrics:
Awake were they only,
Those shepherds so lonely,
On guard in that silence profound;
When colour had faded,
When night-time had shaded
Their senses from sight and from sound.

Lo, then broke a wonder,
Then drifted asunder
The veils from the splendour of God;
When light from the Holy
Came down to the lowly
And heav’n to the earth that they trod.

May light now enfold us,
O Lord, for behold us
Like shepherds, from tumult withdrawn;
Nor hearing, nor seeing,
All other care fleeing,
We wait the ineffable dawn.

O spirit all-knowing,
Thou source overflowing,
O move in the darkness around,
That sight may be in us,
True hearing to win us
Glad tidings where Christ may be found.

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel – Christmas Songs 2017 Day 8

Okay, maybe this will be the last version of O Come, O Come Emmuanuel for this year.
Linda Ronstadt provides today’s rendition.

Softly And Tenderly by Parton, Harris, And Ronstadt

This rendition of Softly And Tenderly from Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt was never released.
I think it may have been for a third, uncompleted Trio album.
The lead vocals are shared among the three.

Do I Ever Cross Your Mind by Parton, Harris, and Ronstadt

I bought a download copy of The Complete Trio Collection, a remastered edition of Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt’s albums Trio, Trio 2, and a whole bunch of unreleased tracks.
The vocals and harmonies are sublime; all three vocalists were at the peak of their powers when these were recorded.
Here’s Do I Ever Cross Your Mind, from Trio 2 and an unreleased version that has a lead by Parton.

Farther Along by Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt & Emmylou Harris

Farther Along.
This is a track from Parton, Ronstadt & Harris’ album Trio.
Last year there was a re-release featuring the album, its sequel and a third disk of unreleased tracks and alternate takes.
I’ll get it one day.
