A hymn as we continue through the days of Christmas on the final Sunday of the year.
O For A Heart To Praise My God expresses some themes dear to writer Charles Wesley’s heart and Christian devotion.
This popular style rendition by Simon Goodall expresses the heart and will of Wesley very well.

Another 52 weeks of the truths of Christian faith come to a close.
Blessed New Year to all!

Westminster Shorter Catechism – Lord’s Day 52

Q & A 107
Q What does the conclusion of the Lord’s Prayer teach us?
A The conclusion of the Lord’s Prayer, which is, For Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen, teaches us to take our encouragement in prayer from God only,1 and in our prayers to praise Him, ascribing kingdom, power, and glory to Him;2 and, in testimony of our desire, and assurance to be heard, we say, Amen.*3

*1 Daniel 9:4, 7-9, 16-19; Luke 18:1, 7-8.
*2 1 Chronicles 29:10-13; 1 Timothy 1:17; Revelation 5:11-13
*3 1 Corinthians 14:16; Revelation 22:20. He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!

The days of Christmas are underway.
And the day after Christmas was known as St Stephen’s Day before it was Boxing Day.
So Good King Wenceslas is the song for the day.
Oddly few popular renditions available.
This one by the ever reliable Bing Crosby may also feature Rosemary Clooney on vocals.
Crosby’s phrasing is so assured, clear and smooth.

Those being prepared for the coming of the kingdom will have experiences which may be painful and feel like God’s displeasure, but those experiences are actually God divesting us of everything that has no place in the kingdom.

For those unable to join us at MGPC, the service will be live-streamed.
