Both competitions had average rounds last week.
I’m not a fan of the AFL grand final rematch being the first game of the season. I think it’s lazy – the media love a narrative that writes itself. I would prefer a later meeting after both teams have had time to settle a form line.
It doesn’t seem likely that an NRL coach could be ousted after three rounds, but Wests may be a chance if they don’t show something this weekend. Especially if New Zealand roll over the top of them.

Except for Julie’s romances: if they live they’re louses – if they’re the real deal there’s generally some form of fatality just around the corner.

Tightrope by Jon Guerra.
When I fall, teach me to fly.

You rose up and looked for your friends
You told them you forgave them
And that you’d always be with them
And that falling is how you ascend
You said falling is how you ascend
Teach me to fall in your direction
Teach me to hitch my heart to yours
Give me the mind to know the difference
Between the cart, the cargo, and horse
Teach me today I still need saving
Teach me the measure of your grace
When I can’t go on, teach me to climb
When I can’t get up, teach me to rise
And when I fall, teach me to fly
