The visit of the bishop of Rome to Scotland drew lots of comment around the blogopshere.
Presbyterians generally look back to our Confession of Faith from 1646, with its identification of Pope of Rome as the antichrist, and feel we’ve got the market on papal protesting all sewn up.
This papal protestor trumps the Presbyterians by referring back to 1054, beating us by nearly 600 years. Sadly though, in this case, I have to side with the Pope. This takes me back to attending ‘History of Christian Thought’ lectures by Ian Gillman at the University of Queensland in 1990.

From Justin Taylor:

For those unfamiliar with filioque, here is a quick overview from Graham Cole:

Filioque: Lat., “and from the Son.” Refers to the procession of the Spirit within the triune Godhead. Added to the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed in the West without Eastern Church approval. According to Eastern theology, the Spirit proceeds from the Father alone. A key point of contention between creedal Western churches and Eastern ones, especially since the split of A.D. 1054.
