Reading Miss Fisher involves consistently encountering the words ‘Hispano-Suiza’. This is her car, which in the TV series is a wonderfully sourced piece of authentic motoring history that remains mostly in the background. In the written stories each mention seems to invoke far more than a sense of conveyance; rather an exotic and barely restrainable power and flair, a vehicular representation of its driver.

Color is a track from Ellie Holcomb’s album Canyon.

In broken sanctuary light
I’m surrendered , I am hypnotized
I can see You even though I’m blind
This world is made of color
In the stained glass church of ordinary life
I’m surrendered , I am baptized
I can hold you like a dandelion
Cause this world is made of color

The car seems full of shopping, some of which is even mine.

Time to return home for a week, and then see what parts of the Commonwealth of Australia are accessible by two of its citizens.

Bought In God They Trust? by Roy Williams today. It has articles of varying length and depth about the spiritual backgrounds and beliefs of those who held the office of Prime Minister of Australia up until the publication in 2013. We’ve had three more PMs since then.
Given the times when all these were born Christian or religious principles and beliefs were either actively or passively formative.
The book provides an interesting overview of Australia’s political history, and also marks the cultural and spiritual changes which have taken place in Australia over the past 120 years.
