So everything was going alright with the AFL until Sunday afternoon. Melbourne going down to St Kilda was fair enough, but Lance Franklin’s late withdrawal doesn’t fully explain Sydney’s capitulation.
In the NRL, New Zealand and Canterbury rained on my parade with losses (partially justified with New Zealand losing their playmaking half-back), but both teams are underperforming chronically.
NRL (last round 6/8; season tally 84/144)
Brisbane (beware the strife riven Manly with a new coach)
St George (because Newcastle are going even worse than St George)
AFL (last round 7/9; season tally 102/144)
Sydney (two teams who have been through non-football related emotional turmoil.)
