The Desiring God blog has featured Twelve Appeals To Prosperity Preachers from John Piper. The content has been drawn from Piper’s book ‘Let The Nations Be Glad’.

As Piper points out

This is the missing note in prosperity preaching. The New Testament aims at the glory of Christ, not the glory of his gifts. To make that clear, it puts the entire Christian life under the banner of joyful self-denial. “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” (Mark 8:34). “I have been crucified with Christ” (Galatians 2:20).

This is a worthwhile point for any preacher to grasp. The blessings that Christ has won for us are great, but our glory is not in them, but in Christ alone. We need to keep Him central.
It is worthwhile for Christians to meditate on these points as well. At some points or another we all get tempted to want these blessings and we can get disappointed at hardship or deprivation.

I really like the last one – what else could be more valuable than Christ?
