Revival Anthem – Sunday Songs

When Rend Collective release new songs they’re worth a listen.
Good tunes, stirring lyrics, singable.
Revival Anthem is self-consciously significant.
It’s not triumphalistic, despite the music.
It expresses faith in God’s power to work in the lives of His people.
The only thing it lacks is an explicit mention Jesus and that the declaration of his redemptive work of Jesus as being the primary work of God’s people.
It’s implicit, I guess.
Apparently they’ve taken some flak over the ‘Holy riot’ line.
I wouldn’t think it’s as big a deal as ‘reckless love’ or ‘sloppy wet kiss’ but your mileage may vary.
All the la-la-las are a bit much for me.
I don’t think we’d use this in Congregational worship.

The lyrics:
1.
Spirit fall down
Start a Holy riot
Fill this place now
With the tongues of fire
Break the strongholds
Come and unleash heaven
Burn within us
Make us bold as lions
Refrain.
This is our revival anthem
Can you feel the darkness shaking
Oh, we are the dry bones rising
This will be our great awakening
This is our revival anthem
2.
Fill our hearts, Lord
With a Holy danger
Lead us beyond
Our fear of failure
We’ll fight the good fight
In Your strength and power
We’ll take back the night
Victory is ours
Refrain.
Bridge.
We will praise You when our hearts are breaking
Praise You when our world is caving
We will not, we will not be moved
We will praise You till we see Your kingdom
Greater things are surely coming
You are God, and You are on the move
Refrain.

Boldly I Approach (The Art Of Celebration) – Sunday Songs

Rend Collective’s Boldly I Approach works better than I thought it would at first.
The lyrics are as thoughtful and strong as most of their output. And their folk-music styling makes it accessible to sing.

The lyrics:
1
By grace alone somehow I stand
Where even angels fear to tread
Invited by redeeming love
Before the throne of God above
He pulls me close with nail-scarred hands
Into His everlasting arms
2
When condemnation grips my heart
And satan tempts me to despair
I hear the voice that scatters fear
The Great I Am The Lord is here
Oh praise the One who fights for me
And shields my soul eternally
Chorus
Boldly I approach your throne
Blameless now I’m running home
By your blood I come
Welcomed as your own
Into the arms of majesty
3
Behold the bright and risen Son
More beauty than this world has known
I’m face to face with love Himself
His perfect spotless righteousness
A thousand years, a thousand tongues
Are not enough to sing His praise
Chorus x 2
Bridge
This is the art of celebration
Knowing were free from condemnation
Oh praise the One, praise the One
Who made an end to all my sin
Repeat bridge
Chorus

Resurrection Day – Sunday Songs

Resurrection Day demonstrates Rend Collective’s clever lyrical skill in expressing familiar truths in fresh ways.
I think it balances the eternal spiritual dimension of salvation with the lived out present dimension of the Christian life without bringing the wrong aspects of eternity in to this life (prosperity gospel) or the wrong aspects of this life into eternity (social gospel/liberalism).

The lyrics:
1.
Because You’re risen I can rise
Because You’re living I’m alive
Because Your cross is powerful
Because You rose invincible
I can get up off the floor
Chorus.
This is my resurrection day
Nothing’s gonna hold me in the grave
This is my resurrection day
Nothing’s gonna hold me down
Say goodbye to my yesterdays
Ever since I met You I am changed
This is my resurrection day
Nothing’s gonna hold me down
2.
Because You rolled my stone away
Because my debt has all been paid
Because You stand in victory
Because You crushed the enemy
I can get up off the floor
Chorus.
Bridge.
The good news is the good news
‘Cause You chose the rugged cross
The good news is the good news
‘Cause You rose up from the dust
Your gospel is the power
That is saving all of us
So, I can get up off the floor
Come on get up off the floor

Hymn Of The Ages – Sunday Songs

Hymn Of The Ages features on Good News, the latest album from the prolific Rend Collective.
They always feature a good blend of songs on their releases.
This is quite anthemic and hymn like, with strong corporate lyrics declaring praise to God.

The lyrics:
1.
All history shall bow before Your throne
Time and space on bended knee shall come
Though kingdoms pass away
Your majesty remains
How great You are
How great must be Your song
2.
The Alpha and Omega without end
The Everlasting makes this wretch His friend
The angels stand in awe
This beggar heart responds
How great You are
How great must be Your song
Refrain.
You’re the hymn of the ages
The hope of all the world
You carried our redemption on Your shoulders
You’re the anthem of salvation
Jesus, Lord of Lords
Your legacy will echo through the ages
3.
Oh, for a countless choir in my lungs
To sing Your praises with a thousand tongues
The purpose in my days
Is ever to proclaim
How great You are
How great must be Your song
Bridge.
We raise the never-ending song
The greatest song we’ve ever known
The song of angels
The hymn of ages
Holy is the Lord
We praise the never-ending One
The greatest joy we’ve ever known
All hail King Jesus
Forever glorious
Holy is the Lord
Chorus.

Counting Every Blessing by Rend Collective

Rend Collective have yet another new album out.
Counting Every Blessing seems to indicate they’re sticking with their established sound.

I was blind, now I’m seeing in colour
I was dead, now I’m living forever
I had failed, but You were my Redeemer
I’ve been blessed beyond all measure

I was lost, now I’m found by the Father
I’ve been changed from a ruin to treasure
I’ve been given a hope and a future
I’ve been blessed beyond all measure

I am counting every blessing
Counting every blessing
Letting go and trusting
When I cannot see

I am counting every blessing
Counting every blessing
Surely every season
You are good to me

You were there in the valley of shadows
You were there in the depth of my sorrows
You’re my strength, my hope for tomorrow
I’ve been blessed beyond all measure

Surely Your goodness pursues me
Surely Your heart is still for me
I will remember Your mercies
All my days
Through every storm and gale

Shining Light – Christmas (Sunday) Songs Day 3 2017

Shining Light by Rend Collective, from their Christmas Campfire album.

The lyrics:

Roman candles that burn in the night
Yeah, you are a shining light
You lit a torch in the infinite
Yeah, you are a shining light
Yeah, you light up my life
You have always been a thorn in their side
But to me you’re a shining light
You arrive and the night is alive
Yeah, you are a shining light
Yeah, you light up my life

We made a connection
A full on chemical reaction
Brought by dark divine intervention
Yeah, you are a shining light
A constellation once seen
Over royal Davids city
An epiphany you burn so pretty
Yeah, you are a shining light

You are a force, you are a constant source
Yeah, you are a shining light
Incandescent in the darkest night
Yeah, you are a shining light
We made a connection
A full on chemical reaction
Brought by dark divine intervention
Yeah, you are a shining light

A constellation once seen
Over royal Davids city
An epiphany you burn so pretty
Yeah, you are a shining light
Roman candles that burn in the night
Yeah, you are a shining light
Yeah, you light up my life

Nailed To The Cross by Rend Collective

Nailed To The Cross is a new song from the prolific Rend Collective.
The lyrics express some great truths about assurance in Christ.
It will be included on their upcoming album Good News.
This is a lyric video, or you can check the words out below.

The lyrics:
1.
When I stand accused by my regrets
And the Devil roars his empty threats
I will preach the gospel to myself
That I am not a man condemned
For Jesus Christ is my defence
Chorus.
My sin is nailed to the cross
My soul is healed by the scars
The weight of guilt I bear no more
Praise the Lord
Praise the Lord
2.
When my doubt and shame hang over me
Like the arrows of the enemy
I will run again to Calvary
That rugged hill of Hell’s defeat
My fortress and my victory
Chorus.
My sin is nailed to the cross
My soul is healed by the scars
Now I’m alive forevermore
Praise the Lord
Praise the Lord
Bridge.
It is finished
Sin is vanquished
Hallelujah praise the Lord
All the glory
All the honour
To my Saviour
Christ the Lord
3.
When I stand before the throne at last
His blood will plead my innocence
I will worship Him with holy hands
And raise the song that never ends
Of Jesus Christ, my righteousness
