Is He Worthy? – Sunday Songs

Is He Worthy? was released on Andrew Peterson’s Resurrection Letters Volume 1 and I’ve already feature it here.
It’s been included by Chris Tomlin on his upcoming album Holy Roar.
Which probably means its going to be sung in lots of churches quite a lot pretty soon.
I’m not sure how it works in congregational setting, but call and response is a legitimate but not often used form.

The lyrics and song structure are very strong (it is an Andrew Peterson composition, after all), and the melody is regular enough to be singable.

Here’s Tomlin’s version.

And, here’s Peterson’s

The lyrics:
Do you feel the world is broken?
(We do)
Do you feel the shadows deepen?
(We do)
But do you know that all the dark won’t stop the light from getting through?
(We do)
Do you wish that you could see it all made new?
(We do)
Is all creation groaning?
(It is)
Is a new creation coming?
(It is)
Is the glory of the Lord to be the light within our midst?
(It is)
Is it good that we remind ourselves of this?
(It is)
Is anyone worthy?
Is anyone whole?
Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?
The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave
He is David’s root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave
Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
Of all blessing and honor and glory
Is He worthy of this?
He is
Does the Father truly love us?
(He does)
Does the Spirit move among us?
(He does)
And does Jesus, our Messiah hold forever those He loves?
(He does)
Does our God intend to dwell again with us?
(He does)
Is anyone worthy?
Is anyone whole?
Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?
The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave
He is David’s root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave
From every people and tribe
Every nation and tongue
He has made us a kingdom and priests to God
To reign with the Son
Is He worthy?Is He worthy?
Of all blessing and honor and glory
Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
Is He worthy of this?
He is!
Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
He is!
He is!

Thank You God For Saving Me – Sunday Songs

Thank You God For Saving Me was one of the songs we sang at the church we visited tonight.
It has some helpful sentiments, the lyrics are static thoughts rather than a flow, typical of Chris Tomlin.
Unusually for Tomlin the musical range seemed accessible and worked relatively well as a congregational song.

The lyrics:
1.
What can I give to You
What can I offer to a king
For all the love You’ve shown
For all Your mercy over me
Chorus:
I called Your name
You heard my cry
Out of the grave
And into life
My heart is Yours
My soul is free
Thank You God for saving me
2.
The rock of salvation
My hope is built on nothing less
Morning by morning
How great is Your faithfulness
Chorus.
Bridge.
You gave Your life upon the cross
You suffered once for all
You made a way
Jesus, in victory You rose
You made us all Your own
Now we are saved

How Can I Keep From Singing Your Praise – Sunday Songs

I’ve been messing around with Ed Cash, Matt Redman, and Chris Tomlin’s How Can I Keep From Singing Your Praise for a while now.
It says some helpful things, but as is common with Tomlin vocals, it’s not as easy as it first sounds (particularly in the bridge) and it takes some work to get it into a range singable by normal humans.

The lyrics:
Verse 1
There is an endless song, echoes in my soul
I hear the music ring
And though the storms may come
I am holding on to the rock I cling
Chorus
How can I keep from singing Your praise
How can I ever say enough
How amazing is Your love
How can I keep from shouting Your name
I know I am loved by the King
And it makes my heart want to sing
Verse 2
I will lift my eyes in the darkest night
For I know my Savior lives
And I will walk with You knowing
You’ll see me through
And sing the songs You give
(Repeat Chorus)
Bridge
I can sing in the troubled times
sing when I win
I can sing when I lose my step
and fall down again
I can sing cause You pick me up
sing ’cause You’re there
I can sing cause You hear me, Lord
when I call You in prayer
I can sing with my last breath
sing for I know
That I’ll sing with the angels and the
saints around the throne
(Repeat Chorus)
