Thomas More was executed on 6 July 1535. His desire to remain silent rather than express support for that which his conscience could not recognize as true was not enough to preserve his life. Perhaps we are not far from a cultural norm where failure to actively and vocally agree as demanded will be deemed ‘malicious silence’ subject to sanction.
