This 2019 animation provides a time frame and sense of visual scale for successive holders of the distinction of being the world’s tallest building.
Of interest is the gap between the Empire State Building and the World Trade Center Towers; the idea that the world’s tallest building could have been in Chicago; and the move from West to East of the current and recent past holders of the title.

There was a time in the 1980s when it was mooted that the then world’s tallest office building would be constructed in Brisbane.
The project got some way toward commencement, and if the political upheavals of that time had been delayed by only a few more years something probably would have proceeded.

Mount Gambier’s tallest building was a six story hospital that was opened in 1961, superseded in 1997 by what seemed to be a far smaller replacement, and which fell derelict and was totally demolished in 2014.
