Movie sequels are very seldom better than the originals. (Curiously, in trilogies the third is pretty much always better than the second, Matrix Revolutions excluded.)
Sometimes a sequel is better because the first movie ponderously sets up a status quo like the 1970s Superman movies. Other times the sequel is a breathtaking extension of characters and story, such as the second Godfather movie. (And again curiously, later additions to these franchises were calamitous steps backward) Both of these examples find me in disagreement with the infographic below, by the way.

At least we can all agree that Speed 2 is the worst sequel ever.
