What do you do when one of your favorite musicians writes an online article that raves about their own favorite new musician?
Especially when your favourite artist acknowledges that their new favourite is in a very different place spiritually (ie. not Christian), but that their skill still informs and deepens his own appreciation of Christian truth.
What do you do when a lyricist whose capacity for expression you admire gushes over the lyrical skill of another song-writer?
Andrew Peterson writes an extended fan-gush for Josh Ritter and his latest album, So Runs The World Away, at the Rabbit Room.
He even includes an embedded track and lyrics to a song from the album, The Curse, an achingly emotive ballad about a mummy who falls in love with the archaeologist who discovers him.
If you’re interested in purchasing the album as a download I eventually found this link on Ritter’s website where you can get it for US$7.99.
And yes, it’s a pretty good album.
Here’s a YouTube featuring Ritter’s song interpreted visually by “Puppeteer extraordinaire Liam Hurley (of The Royal City Band) conceived, directed and produced this mesmerizing vision set to Josh Ritter’s song “The Curse.” Videography and editing by Marie Le Claire. Puppeteering by Liam Hurley and Kevin White. Production Assistant was MacKenzie Pause.”
I’d probably recommend listening to the song first at Peterson’s blog post before watching the visualisation.
After all, it’s just one interpretation of the song.
I found your post title very intriguing as it fits me exactly. Upon AP’s recommendation, I downloaded the album yesterday. I have listened thru a couple times and I’m not sure what to make of it. He is on tour and in Chicago tomorrow. I was hoping for the album to be overwhelming and I’d go to the show. I’m curious to know what you think of the album. When you figure out… post again.
