Back in Theological College we had a chapel worship service each week, and during the course of the year, along with some visitors, each student would have opportunity to preach.
Then we’d depart from the chapel, return to our lecture room, and have a time where the sermon was evaluated by students and whatever staff had been present.
If you want to experience what such a review feels like, this movie clip pretty much sums it up.
For those of you who went through this, there is a chance watching the clip will bring about flash-backs, so be prepared.

Time has dimmed the memory somewhat.
Some of my colleagues may remember it as being worse.

I don’t think the peer review element helped, or perhaps if it had been done inductively by a someone leading the process.
A couple of my friends could constructively critique. At that stage all I could do was point out (percieved) faults.
I actually think we could have done a lot more of ‘give a talk and be guided through critical feedback’ as part of recgular college lectures.
But the one time I never would have included an evaluation was on a chapel preach.
