Two recent arrivals highly recommended for Easter, and all year ’round.
Koorong are having a sale at the moment and both are in stock. (Thought very limited numbers of the first title mentioned are available.)
Somehow I missed ‘Jesus, Keep Me Near The Cross’, which was published last year.
Within its 150 pages we are offered 25 essays which are excerpted from writings of a very gifted group of expositors. It is, in effect a sampler, but what a rich sampler it is.
From the Crossway blog:
Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross draws from the works and sermons of classic theologians such as Luther, Edwards, Spurgeon, Ryle, and Augustine, and from leading contemporary teachers such as Francis Schaeffer, John Piper, R. C. Sproul, Alistair Begg, Kent Hughes, and Joni Eareckson Tada to help readers enter into an experience of Christ’s passion and anchor their hope in the power of his resurrection.
The second is ‘Scandalous’, by Don Carson. Recommending a Don Carson book is like saying that it’s worth watching Roger Federer play tennis or the Beatles are can stand a listen to.
This is a series of expositions which were given at Mars Hill church, home of Mark Driscoll.
The five chapter of the 170 page book are: The Ironies Of The Cross (Matthew 27:27-51a); The Center Of The Whole Bible (Romans 3:21-26); The Strange Triumph Of A Slaughtered Lamb (Revelation 12)’ A Miracle Full Of Surprises (John 11:1-53) and Doubting The Resurrection Of Jesus (John 20:24-31)
You’ll understand very familiar truths more clearly if you read this book.
