An Australia Day reflection.

There are two statements/assertions that I run into from time to time.
The first of these stems from Pedro Fernández de Quirós, a Portuguese explorer and devout Roman Catholic, who named the lands, previously known as terra australis incognito, either La Australia del Espiritu Santo (The Great South Land of the Holy Spirit) or La Austrialia del Espiritu Santo (The Austrian Land of the Holy Spirit), depending on your currency.
Quirós was actually on Vanuatu. There is no real evidence he ever landed on Australia.

The second is usually attributed to Smith Wigglesworth. The idea is that Wigglesworth prophesied that the last great revival would take place in this part of the world. It is notoriously hard to track down exactly what it’s all about. If Wigglesworth didn’t say it, he’s certainly been saddled with the credit.

Time and again, in prayer, conversation and reading, these two prophecies are claimed.
Some seem to genuinely believe that revival will come to Australia because these two said it would.
They are accorded ‘prophetic’ status basically because Christians hope what they said is true/will become true.
I obviously don’t know either of these gentlemen.
But I wish that Christians would claim promises from God that God has made, and not the well-meaning sentiments of men.
I also wish Christians knew the difference between opinions/desires and prophecy and treated each accordingly.

Here’s a couple of prophetic words over Australia that we can put our trust in:
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Why would anyone need any other ‘prophetic’ word than these?

Smith Wigglesworth is an anointed man… I have one of his books on spiritual gifts and I was just completely blown away…

      Welcome, thanks for your observation.
I have read a biography about Wigglesworth.
His teaching was a help to many.
I understand your esteem for him.
Our hope for the Gospel in Austalia must always be based on what the Bible says, not on the opinion of any person.

    2. What this man did was good for his time. Today we have better understanding of things of faith which can be compared also. As for his book, any body can change its content to have higher ongoing sales! No where in the Bible it says somebody later on after 1850 years will come and explain whats written.

Like all things, prophecy has to be tested. If it lifts up Christ, glorifies God, encourages holiness, is in line with the word of God etc, then it is likely to be from God. True biblical prophecy has a part in the body of Christ. It is true that the word of God is to be esteem above all things because the word is God and all things should be weighed against the word of God. But there is still a need for biblical taught prophecy. We cannot discount it, because it is a gift from God. True biblical prophecy encourages, exhorts, uplifts etc. Everything must be tested against the word of God though.

Never be led by any prophet. Prophets or people who prophecy can only confirm what the Spirit of God has in your heart. Those who are the sons of God are led by the the Spirit of God. This should be our main leading as sons and daughters of God. Smith Wigglesworth from all accounts was a very godly man and his prophecy should be weighed against all the other above factors. I believe the prophecy because I will have a part in this last great revival as God has indicated to me through His Holy Spirit

    1. Gary Ware's avatar gjware says:

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.

(Norm, I have not posted your two previous comments, because all of their content has been included in your published post, I trust that’s okay. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my original post.)

It would be wonderful if Australia would have a revival before Yahshua returns. There would of course be a need for great repentance – certainly our country is in a place where this is needed. With a PM who is living in an adulterous relationship and apathy whereby some 50% of this country declares they do not care if the PM is Christian or not; and some 23% declaring they do not want a Christain at all as PM. This political situation a reflection of our standing as a nation.

There are a number of prophetic warnings posted in recent years and I I believe the Lord has spoken to me also of a judgment coming to this land amongst others. My understanding this will soon be upon us. Such an awaking may turn the minds and open the way for true revival.
I dearly pray that the Lord would deal mercifullly with this country and turn it back from its waywardness that it now finds itself in; turning our people back to him, to worship Him in truth and spirit, that we many may go forth and proclaim the gospel unto all nations. May that be our prayer – a God fearing nation with a heart for the lost in the world.

    1. Gary Ware's avatar gjware says:

      Hey Robert, thanks for commenting.
Your prayer is a biblical and faithful one.
I am thankful that God’s reviving presence has previously come upon peoples who largely were not seeking it and did not desire it.
That gives me hope that revival may yet fall on Australia.
The account of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16 seems instructive to me.
If the Bible’s testimony of man’s deserved judgment and God’s gracious saving purpose does not convict people I wonder why we think that any other form of physical calamity or message from God would change their hearts.
“If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead”.

Hi, just wanting to share. I beleive God went to HUGE lengths to show me his redemptive love and the depths of his love and his truth, and WOO HOO…We all know what happens when we know truth..Its sets us free! How did he do this…Yes of course John 3:16, he sent his son….But guess what… I knew that scripture of by heart as a child and teenager, did it stop doubt and rebellion..? NO..I travelled far from God and he reached me through very very very clear and biblical, holy spirit phrophecy. IN my darkest hour, the holy spirit convicted me and reached me through a very precise and clear phrophetic word which was spoken to me 7 years before hand. It was at this time that I did what it says in Corinthians when speaking of the prophetic gift….I fell on my face and repented and worshipped in for the first time truth, freedom and understanding. PRAISE OUR LORD JESUS….He loves us and has provided all the tools and equipment needed for Christians to fight for the city of Jerusalem! AMEN

  5. Dil's avatar Dil says:

    Hi

Here is some evidence. I am no Pentecostal nor do I speak in tongues. I did not know of Smith Wigglesworth or any other prophecy about Revival in Australia Until early this year (2013). However in 2010 God spoke to my wife then me separately and told us to move from our home in USA to Australia. When I asked why, he said because the Shekinah Glory of God will return to Australia and we are to be present for His revival in that land. We gave away all our possessions including both cars, sold both our houses and moved with only 2 suitecases of belongings each within 6 months of RECIEVING to word to move, without a job secured and mid stream of the kids school year.
I work in IT and found a job doing the same in Australia. We hate it here, been here plea to of times for vacations and always landed in the hospital sick for one reason or another. The whole family had agreed never to visit Australia after our last vacation here. But when we heard Gods voice clearly we could not disobey. So we are here.
I don’t know what His plan is or the timing of it or what part we play in it. All I know is that there will be revival. God said it, I believe it and have acted in obedience to his command.
No that you should believe my testamony as Gods RHEMA word but hope it serves as a datapoint in your quest to discern the truth about Smith Wigglesworth and other people’s prophecy of revival in Australia.
As for me, I hope t happens soon so we can return to USA as that is the promise God gave us. We will return after the revival.

    1. Just's avatar Just says:

That’s so interesting Dil! I hope and pray God sends revival here by His Spirit and soon.

Thank you Dil for your comments on believing that there will be a revival in Australia. God started speaking to myself and my husband from the year 2000 about the revival in the last days and that Australia will usher in that move and it will spread to the rest of the world from here. As we are at the opposite ends of the earth from Israel, God has chosen people here to usher in His Glory, also to prepare the body of Christ for Yeshua’s return. We heard about the prophecy that Smith Wigglesworth had given and do believe that it is a word from the Lord God Almighty, because that word has confirmed to us all the things that Yeshua had already shown us. I believe that God has called you and your family here for a reason and soon you will see that about to take place. As we have been waiting, God has been preparing us for such a time as this.

Hang in there brother, as uncomfortable as it may be its not about us.

  6. Alza's avatar Alza says:

Didnt Smith Wigglesworth procphise 3 revivals? and 2 have already come to pass? Didnt Dereck Prince say there be a great end time revival? The Tommy Hicks Vision? Kenneth Hagin? Also in the Azuza St revival William Seymor prophise that about 100yrs time there will be even greater revival than this- Greater of GOD’s glory manifestation? Even the Holy Spirit has given our little family of 6 a prophecy of this coming outpouring…The thing is it only STARTS in Australia…FIRE Spreads quickly. NO MAN SHALL PUT IT OUT!,,

    1. John's avatar John says:

It Is True. Australia is and will be home to the Greatest of All, True Man and Creator. His Return shall be swift, His Countenance Unparalleled. To Him there Is no comparison. The proud shall succumb, the weak shall strengthen. The loving shall cry and the arrogant shall repent. To He from Whom All came, shall All be Returned, thus is the Will of the Almighty and shall the Eternal Plan reach Fruition.
