Roger Bannister, one of the elders here at mgpc is on his way home from East Timor. Rob Duncanson, pastor of Darwin Presbyterian, preached in Dili.
If I understand Roger’s phone messages correctly he worshipped with the saints at Kaikasa, up in the mountains. Way up in the mountains.
I’m not familiar with that place name, but it is under the pastoral leadership of Marcos, husband of Priscilla and father of Marianna. They are based in the Liquiçá district. Getting to church involved ‘trekking through the mountains’.
He spoke of a joyful congregation (up in the mountains) where they heard Marcos preach a sermon on ‘Where your treasure is, there your heart is also’. Marcos had to be translated into the local dialect, which was not Tetun or Bahasa.
When Roger spoke, it took two translations to get the message to the people. Now that’s cross-cultural work.
He had breakfast and lunch there, returning to Dili about 6.00pm. (Eleven hours on the road, by the sound of it)
He sounded tired.
I think he’s ready to come home now.

Roger probably saw a view something like this:

Dad called me from up the top of the Mountain and it sounded like it was one the greatest experiences he has ever had!! Good pic!

The photos don’t do it justice.
We were basically looking down on the clouds which were floating throught the valley below.
