I start to type this while Roger Bannister talks on the phone.
The connection is pretty bad, its like listening to someone who’s in a steel pipe at a train station, during peak hour.
It’s four o’clock, East Timor time, they’ve just had communion.
The Presbyterian Church of Timor Leste have had something like their first Assembly today. Acts 15 revisited.
They’ve adopted a Constitution; also the Westminster Confession as a standard; and dealt with some other business, including filling some official positions. No word on whether any committees were formed.
The different delegates, pastors and elders were able to participate as equals and leaders of the church. This will help further bond them together in partnership and trust.
I was able to speak (such as it was, under the circumstances) to Arlindo Marcal, a leader of this group of Christians. He expressed his appreciation that an elder from our church had come to visit.
We both look forward to more opportunities for mutual support, hopefully including a visit by Arlindo in the second half of next year, which will coincide with the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Australia.
They’ve been staying and meeting at Liquiçá, a town (and region) about 35 kilometers west of Dili, on the northern coast of East Timor. Roger said yesterday that they’d taken him to the ocean nearby where he saw a hump-back whale.
I think I understood Arlindo say that they’ll head back to Dili soon. That’s where they’ll attend church on Sunday, but I don’t know if they’ll be traveling anywhere on Friday or Saturday. Their official meetings are now complete.
That’s all I know at the minute.

Thanks Gary for all the support, encouragement and prayer from you and your blog-readers.
I had Dili Belly really bad last night, but after some immodium and some carbon tablets, and most significantly pryaer from my dear bros here, I recovered very quickly.
    Today will be FLEXIBLE!!!!
Sunday I preach at Dili, which will be an interesting experience. Will have to do some prep some time as I was not expecting this privilege.
    Blessings, rd

You probably won’t see this till you get home, but I’m happy to hear of your quick recovery and the folk at mgpc will pray on Sunday morning that the Lord will give great fruit as you open His Word to the saints in Dili.
Looking forward to seeing the photos.

That is such a magnificent step for the East Timor church to take. I really pray that their new constitution and confession would be used of God to unite the believers there, invigorate their ministry in their local area, and enable stronger & more liberated fellowship and ministry partnerships with other like-minded churches.
