I’m pretty sure that this version of Leaning On The Everlasting Arms by The Lower Lights is informed by Iris Dement’s rendition. Look hers up and hear what I mean. It’s about the way that I’d sing it too, also influenced by Dement.

A rousing rendition of Leaning On The Everlasting Arms, a favourite of this blog. It seems the best Thomists are Hillbilly Thomists.
It seems like I’ve never posted Iris Dement’s rendition of Leaning On The Everlasting Arms. The first time I heard it (at the end of the Coen Brothers’ version of True Grit) my initial response was quite negative. But pretty quickly her recording and the album it comes from (Lifeline) endeared themselves to me.
This is a harmonic and restrained rendition of a couple of verses of Leaning On The Everlasting Arms sung by Selah with Ron Block on guitar.
