Team sport Grand Final winning sides have so many stories. Players near the end of careers, others with many more seasons ahead. Those who are not able to play on the day through injury or selection. Others included though not first team regulars.

There stories are replicated on the losing side, especially when tinged with the added disappointment of not having performed at an expected standard.

Grand Finals are hard to get into, harder to win, and one year’s achievement is no guarantee of a return.

That’s why I like watching the after game celebrations, particularly as they spill over to sweep up their club mates and families and friends just as much as the game.

Congratulations Geelong. Commiserations Sydney.
