I’ve mentioned Gurrumul’s The Gospel Album before.
This duet of Amazing Grace with Paul Kelly is a standout.
I found this commentary on the track from Rolling Stone Australia a bit bemusing: “The duo breathe new life into the well-known Christian hymn, Gurrumul’s adaption of verses into his own Yolngu language giving the immediate distinction, yet its his delivery, in his usual perfectly patient manner, that transitions the song — traditionally aligned with calls for forgiveness — towards a more optimistic, hopeful perspective.”
I thought Amazing Grace was as optimistic and hopeful as hymns come.
But there you go.
