Over the course of a month in our pastoral prayers, MGPC consistently mentions the local congregations in this city, usually praying for one and its leaders.
We pray for fruit for their work of sharing God’s Word, the Gospel contained therein, and for wisdom in those who lead.
This article from Eric Bancroft gives five reasons why churches should pray for other local churches.
I like the conclusion of the article in which Bancroft challenges the way we’d respond if God answered these prayers, and what that says about our Christian walk and Gospel commitment.
Any time I struggle in this area I know I need to return to what God has done for me in Jesus and remember how many need to know Jesus in our city.

I asked our elders once, “What if we prayed for revival and God gave it, but He gave it at another gospel-preaching church in town? Would we rejoice or be disappointed?” I think this question gets to the heart of what is truly motivating us in ministry. I pray it is a love for Christ, a confidence in His promise to build His universal church, and a desire to see many faithful witnesses for Christ multiply in your church and beyond.
