Five constructive points from Keith Getty, who writes songs that congregations can sing, rather than listen to.
The post is prompted by various seminars he has conducted with church musicians and pastors where he: “posed the question, “What are the things you ask yourself on Monday morning, in reviewing Sunday’s services?” Generally, the responses centered around production values, stylistic issues, people management, pleasing the pastor, or finishing the service on time. I do not recall that any one asked, “How did the congregation sing?””

If I was going to add anything, it would be that if the congregation benefits from being led in song, then the song leader needs to be visible to the congregation; and that the song-leader needs to lead the singing rather than simply singing along with the congregation.

Now, point one of Getty’s post is ‘Begin With The Pastor’.
