David Ould is an Anglican Pastor who ministers to the Macquarie Fields Congregation in Sydney.
He is also one of five winners of the Your Chair competition and tonight becomes co-host of television current affairs program The Project.
I don’t think I’ve directly interacted with David, but we seem to frequent a lot of the same places on the internet and his contributions are thoughtful and on-point.
Here are David’s thoughts on his appearance, courtesy of Eternity Online:
“I think because of the nature of the show — it’s quite punchy, it’s not the ABC — there’s going to be no massive in-depth discussion and it means I’m going to have to be very focussed and on target.
“The point of what I want to do, and why I applied in the first place, is to say: here’s what a credible Christian voice is in the media. This is what motivates us. This is why we take the positions that we take. It’s not for the reasons that you ascribe to us, it’s actually for other reasons, because of the great love of Jesus shown to us. So it’d be great if I could have a chance to talk about what love is.”
The Project generally does not present conservative evangelical Christians and their values in a positive light.
He’ll have to be on his toes.
The Project is more than three people sounding off whatever comes into their heads as they consider the day’s events. It has a staff of writers and what is said is the product of their interactions with the hosts. (It’ll be interesting to read David’s reflections about how an episode is prepared and produced.)
The two co-hosts who have appeared on Monday and Tuesday have been completely and positively affirmed. It will be interesting to see how David is treated. I trust it will be similar to the respect and support that the other hosts have been shown.
My expectation is that the Holy Spirit will enable him to think and respond in ways that communicate Jesus to the audience.
