There is going to come a day when Jesus returns and everyone who says “I love Jesus, but can’t be a part of a local church” is going to hear Jesus say that the way we truly demonstrate love for him is by serving and being served by a local church.
Those attending mgpc tomorrow (instead worshipping at our church camp in Nelson, Victoria) will prepare by singing Who With God Most High (Psalm 91) and Give Thanks.
We’ll commence worship singing The Church’s One Foundation, after which our prayer of approach and confession will bring to mind those times when our professed love for God has not been demonstrated in our actions, particularly love for others who are part of God’s family.
Our song of testimony will be Jesus Loves Me, This I Know, after which we’ll recite the Nicene Creed together and sing Now To Him Who Loved Us.
Hearing from God’s Word, firstly we continue through Jeremiah chapter 14 where we’ll hear weighty words in whichthe lying prophets are denounced: Judah shall perish by the sword.
Our sung response will be Be Still, My Soul as we take comfort in the truth that through Jesus we are on God’s side.
Continuing in Matthew 15, the Olivet Discourse, Jesus’ words reach their culmination of warning and encouragement for those who are his disciples longing for his return. Again, the themes of arrival, separation, preparedness, judgment and comfort are present. The comfort of assurance can be seen in Jesus’ affirmation that those who do love him can truly know that they are prepared for his return.
Afterwards we’ll be led in prayers of thanksgiving and for the needs of others, then give our tithes and offerings.
Our worship will conclude as we sing to God’s glory How Great Thou Art.
