Author Calvin Miller died on August 19.
From his website.

Calvin Miller passed on to be with his Lord today, August 19, 2012 at 12:30 CDT. He spent a great deal of his life writing love letters to his Lord Jesus. He is now with him. Funeral arrangments will be posted in the near future. Please pray for his wife Barbara and children, Melanie (and her family) and Tim.

Miller was an author with a capacity to illustrate facets of Christian life and belief with great skill and emotional resonance.
Ed Stetzer provides an early tribute.

Here’s a quote from a latter section of Miller’s booklength reflection on the lyrics of the song Jesus Loves Me.

“As for our actual entrance in heaven, we cannot know that when that will come. Since we cannot know when it will occur, the implication is plain: we ought to love him every day in case that day turns out to be the one on which we actually die. But we should never love Jesus just because loving him is a good thing to do before death. We ought to love Jesus because Jesus is worthy of our love. (Ps. 100). We ought to love him because he is our very present help in trouble (Ps. 46:1). We ought to love him because He is both the bread of life (John 6:48) and the daily bread of our table (Matt. 6:11). He is the serpent on the pole (John 3:14) and when he is exalted, he draws us toward God (John 12:32). He is the vine through which we find life (John 15:4) and our highway to God (John 14:6) He keeps a crown of coronation ready for us the very moment we step from earth to glory (2 Tim. 4:8). No wonder Augustine said to love all things for God’s sake but love God for his own sake.”
