Thanks to the Mount Gambier RSL for the opportunity to be involved with their 2012 Vietnam Veterans’ Day Remembrance Service.
2012 marks the fiftieth anniversary of Australian involvement in the conflict. The saying goes that age shall not weary those who lost their lives; those who remain from what seems to have been such a recent conflict are certainly feeling the weight of their years. to the
501 members of the Australian Armed Services died during the ten years of our nation’s commitment in Vietnam. Four local families who lost members in the conflict were remembered. It was touching to watch them come forward as a group to lay their wreaths.
Jesus spoke about the love of those who lay down their lives for their friends. Times of remembrance such as this give us opportunity to experience an image of the love God has extended to us in Christ.
