Let Your Kingdom Come (first line ‘Your glorious cause, O God) is a song of praise which expresses desire for God’s empowerment to carry out the work of sharing the Gospel. It can open or close a worship service.
Bob Kauflin, under the Sovereign Grace Music banner is the songs author. While the popular music idiom of Sovereign Grace means some of their material doesn’t date very well (it isn’t designed to, after all, it’s popular, in a 80’s-90’s stadium rock sort of way) the strength of some songs gives them a more enduring quality.
I think this is one, simply because it expresses a sentiment which is both worthwhile and not widely expressed in a lot of other songs.
The lyrics.
1.
Your glorious cause, O God, engages our hearts
May Jesus Christ be known wherever we are
We ask not for ourselves, but for Your renown
The cross has saved us so we pray
Your kingdom come
Chorus.
Let Your kingdom come
Let Your will be done
So that everyone might know Your Name
Let Your song be heard everywhere on earth
Till Your sovereign work on earth is done
Let Your kingdom come
2.
Give us Your strength, O God, and courage to speak
Perform Your wondrous deeds through those who are weak
Lord use us as You want, whatever the test
By grace we’ll preach Your gospel
Till our dying breath
Chorus.
