Even if you’ve never heard of Irish Christian group Bluetree there’s a chance you’ve heard one of their songs, God Of This City.
It was flogged to death by a certain segment of the church over the last couple of years.
To be fair, a song composed and sung as an anthem of hope in a brothel in Thailand should sound a bit contextless and out-of-place in the suburbs of Australia.
And the version sung on this album is different in tone to Chris Tomlin’s arena friendly version.
Grouptune are currently offering Bluetree’s album, titled God Of This City, which features that track, plus twelve others and a couple more bonus versions of their greatest hit, as a US$3.99 download.
Again, to be fair, they sound better than okay.
Guitar driven pop/rock stylings with some creative flourishes.
Don’t write them off over one over used song.
