Lengthy post by Frank Turk at Pyromaniacs responding to a recent sermon by Mark Driscoll in which Driscoll takes aim at cessationism, particularly calling out Presbyterians for our affirmation that God’s revelation in the Scriptures is sufficient for our faith and practice, and that the Scriptures are the only place God speaks directly to us.
I think Turk has our back on this one.
This is not much of a surprise as Driscoll has previously affirmed that the hope for ‘new calvinism’ in the future rests firmly on adopting his version of it, and that anyone who disagrees with him is divisive.

I haven’t read Turk. So I don’t know if he really has *my* back. He might be defending something that I wouldn’t want him to worry about.

But neither do I think it’s fair for Driscoll to start labeling Presbyterians.

I don’t know what Driscoll means by “cessationist” nor do I know what Turk means by it either. It might be that I don’t fit within either definition, even though I’m a Presbyterian.

I think I’ll let this one slide through to the keeper.

    And that’s over. And drinks.

We both know what sort of cessationists we are, because we can both read the first paragraph of the first chapter of the Westminster Confession.
So I can have a pretty good stab at characterizing the issue.
