The Water And The Blood is a new release from Sojourn Music.
Twelve sets of hymn lyrics written by Isaac Watts have been provided with new music.
Sort of indie rock / folk / country styles in generally restrained and reflective settings which are sensitive to Watt’s words, it is a companion album to 2009’s Over The Grave in which Watt’s lyrics were given a more uptempo treatment.
Interesting, the majority of their choices from among Watt’s hymns for this album were not known by me. This project is a genuine effort to find ‘lost’ gems, not just update his ‘greatest hits.’
It is a conscious choice on behalf of Sojourn to have songs that relate to all of Christian experience to sing in gathered worship.
And if you don’t have a congregational context in which you can use them you can play them in the car or study.

Zach Nielson, church leader and accomplished musician live-blogged his responses to the album here.

Have a listen for yourself.
