I’ve been posting quotes from Craig Barnes’ book ‘The Pastor As Minor Poet’ (Eerdmans, 2009) lately.
Barnes also has a blog at Shadyside Presbyterian’s website.
Here he muses on what seem to be contradictory quotes:
“Whoever is not against us is for us.” (Mark 9:40)
“Whoever is not with me is against me.” (Matthew 12:30)
This is a summary:

“To pull it together, people can be for salvation but not religious. And yet, if they are not for salvation, it doesn’t matter how religious they are, you [Jesus] still consider them against you.
So it is not about religion. It’s about you.”
