Michele H sent me a link to a news story about the latest from the Church of Rome, an iPhone app designed to step the faithful through confession of sin.
Here at mgpc week by week we confess our sins and our trust in God’s gracious forgiveness through Christ mostly by means of a song, and this year are all audibly pronouncing absolution on each other each week by means of our monthly memory verse.
This particular app has me wondering, if the Manhattan Declaration iPhone app was banned by Apple because it was deemed offensive to homosexuals and others, I wonder if this app will fall foul of Apple as well. Allowing certain behaviours to be called sin, defending unborn humans, and having an unpopular definition of marriage is dangerous ground these days.
I don’t believe confession of sin is a sacrament, but worship and the Christian life should include self-examination, confession of sin to God (sometimes in an accountable way by speaking this aloud in the presence of another) and acknowledgment of forgiveness because of Jesus’ atoning work on our behalf.
Anyway, here’s a screen capture of the app in question.
Below that are a couple more screen caps of the app.
