Kodak ceased production of the iconic photographic film Kodachrome (celebrated by Paul Simon in the eponymous song) and the last developing and processing machine has now been scrapped.
The processing centre in Oklahoma had been inundated with a last-minute rush of business including a “railroad worker who had driven from Arkansas to pick up 1,580 rolls of film that he had just paid $15,798 to develop.”
75 years of the experience of recording human memories has now become a footnote in history.
Last night I asked my daughter to look for something in the ‘Record Section’ at Target. She responded in a way that left me feeling very dinosaurish.
