One of my simple blog pleasures is Cassie’s Cuddles, a family journal/craft scrap-book blog.
It’s the best family journal/craft scrap-book blog I read.
The last couple of posts have featured a couple of toys that Cassie has made. When I saw the second one I simply thought ‘That looks like a gonk to me.’ and the gates of memory opened.
I hadn’t thought of a gonk for years (decades).

When I was a child I owned a toy that looked like this.
Based on the Play School toy Humpty Dumpty. What is now known as a ‘Humpty’ or ‘Humpty Dumpty’ was once known as a ‘Gonk’. I hadn’t thought of the word for years.
‘Gonk’ has been appropriated as a name for other toys over the years and now has fallen from favour, pretty much.
Check out wikipedia for unsubstantiated information on the subject.
But it’s an excellent word to just say over and over again.
‘Gonk’. ‘Gonk’. ‘Gonk.’

Thanks for the memory, Gary, I had a “Gonk” too. Like you, I hadn’t thought about the word for years until I read your blog.
