Following on from the observation contained in this post: if someone is consistently pointing out spiritual concerns about shortcomings in the church, other individuals or groups, and you but has never, never spoken about spiritual issues with which they are presently struggling; that person should be treated with the utmost wariness.
By all means, consider any truth that may be contained in their (usually frequent) asides, ‘chats’ or letters, but the less willing anyone is to identify and seek counsel about their own specific struggles, the less constructive and gracious they will be about the failings of others.
I’m thankful for the friendships that I have with people near and far who bear my burdens and provide me with wise and gracious counsel.
