The grind of tram wheels protesting the turn around a corner.
The clang of their bells the echo of eras past.
The people clad in black (including me). Paul Kelly’s song Winter Coat is the soundtrack of my consciousness, though somewhat incongruously I am clad in t-shirt and jeans.
The sky clad in gray, cloaking the city.
Conversely, the trees which line the streets are divesting themselves of their summer apparel.
Even though dead, brown, cracked and trodden underfoot, the fallen foliage brings a reminder of things organic to the haze of pedestrians whose gaze is fixed downward.
The expanse of the streets negates the urge to bustle.
Coffee calls to me from scores of vendors, inviting me to imbibe and fortify myself with caffeine.
Melbourne.

This is the best time of year to hang around the city and the inner suburbs. Especially Parkville. Welcome back!

      It was very enjoyable.
Spencer Street (fie on Southern Cross and it’s fake grass) to Spring Street and lots of points in between.
The lack of wind made for a cool but not unpleasant day. (Though I didn’t see anyone else dressed in a t-shirt.

My trips to Melbourne last year for college were wonderful. The trips from the airport to Spencer street and then on to Box Hill via train were always full of interest.

    A great city.
