On the Sydney Presbyterian Theological College (PTC) blog Peter Moore writes a series of articles entitled ‘Rhetorical Feature Of The Week’. Moore takes a Greek word descriptive of some rhetorical device which he then encourages preachers to make use of in their sermons.
This week he features what he calls: προσωποποίια (prosōpopoiia) ‘to create characters’.
As a means of utilising the technique to illustrate his own suggestion, Moore provides a late night discussion between an imaginary pastor and the brick wall which stands behind him.
As someone who has whiled away many minutes counting courses of bricks in many churches, both as a bored child and as an adult who should really have known better, this brought back some memories.

Fortunately the feature wall behind the lecturn at mgpc is composed of large blocks that don’t take very long to count.
