There’s something about seeing everyday urban locations flooded with water that seems surreal.

(LP Field, home to the Tennessee Titans, filled with water on Monday, May 3, 2010.)
Of course, no photo can convey the mess and stench left behind when flood subside.
Last night on ABC2’s Dirty Jobs they featured the work teams who stripped houses which were abandoned in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Suburbs of abandoned homes, still with all the belongings of the previous owners, needing to be cleared till just the outer walls, roofs and frames were left.
Another segment dealt with controlling mosquito breeding in all the swimming pools of abandoned homes. The authorities catch small fish and place them in the pools to eat the mosquito larvae. They can’t drain the pools, they just fill up with rain water. This is the only solution.
Every job suggests a story of heartbreak and loss.
