In the midst of a trend toward self-care and avoiding burn-out, Mikey Lynch puts in a word for the notion that pastors have a relentlessly demanding calling and will never be able to get away from the reality that they’ll need to suck it up and get on with it.
He makes a lot of sound points that seem to flow (in my mind, anyway) from the idea of pastoral ministry as calling and not a job.
He does not interact with concepts of how team ministry impacts on some of the demands he identifies.
Given the emphasis on church planting at Geneva Push, and that settled team ministry is not prevalent in a lot of church plants, the singular emphasis on pastor is understandable.

He’s inviting interactions with his position at Christian Reflections.

Yes. I must admit that when I read it I imagined a church planter. Or maybe even an Anglican rector.

I think one of the great strengths of the Presbyterian (i.e. biblical) model is that it will not allow a single person to feel overwhelmed by all of the jobs that Mikey listed.

I’m dreadful at admin. And that’s OK when there is a plurality of elders, of which I am one.
