Murray from Mentone (a suburb in Melbourne, Australia) wonders whether the famous Australian ‘laid back’ ‘she’ll be right mate’ attitude is really just symptomatic of not caring.
He ponders whether this is also evident in the church:
Not only the average Aussie, Christians have caught this contagion too. One of the observations that has been made to me by Christians who’ve immigrated to Australia from other parts of the world is how apathetic Christians are in this city. When it comes to committing to a local church, serving a local church, giving sacrificially, these friends are staggered by Christians lack of effort to even shrug their shoulders.

Only once have I met someone who contacted me and clarified where we stood as a church as part of his considering a work opportunity in our region.
Another family were familiar with our church before they moved here. One of our families, as part of a move to Melbourne to support their children’s education, settled on their choice of a church before they had complete peace about the wisdom of their relocation.
People come for job interviews, check out schools, are taken to a variety of houses to purchase or rent, but wait until after they arrive in town to visit the church of their denominational affiliation or shop around town to see which one suits them best.
What if Christians who feel they should move actually considered churches and their ministries and started looking for jobs, schools and houses after they find a church they are committed to partnering with instead of the other way around?
