I appreciate the fact that you want to share this cheap derogation of the Holy Spirit to inform, but it would be helpful to have it accompanied by a theological critique on your part. As it is it stands as something essentially meaningless and derogatory of God Almighty, i.e. by Him being presented as a plaything or medicine man which can be manipulated by people going emotional.
Thanks for the comment, Herm.
There are folk who are unaware of excesses like this and the way which they beset the church.
Some wonder about the effort made to proclaim orthodox theology and whether those who do so are too harsh, rude and abrupt; lacking compassion and grace in their interactions with those whom they are trying to correct.
I think clips like these provide context which explains that directness and sense of urgency.
Initially I did draft a paragraph asking viewers to think about the understanding of the person and work of the Holy Spirit portrayed here and to think about the differences between that and what we see portrayed in the Scriptures.
I didn’t publish it because I thought that the nature of the clip itself challenges and compels the viewer to do it anyway, just as you’ve done.
As your comment also indicates, the errors here are manifold, embracing our understanding of the character of the benefits of God’s redemptive work, the nature of the Holy Spirit’s presence and how the believer appropriates His work, and appropriate ways to praise and worship the Triune God.
Taken individually they are unhelpful, to say the least. Heaped one upon the other, as they are here, and there is plainly something that deviates from what we recognise as biblical Christianity.
I’ve updated the tag for clarity.
This is one of the worst things I’ve ever seen.
I’m afraid to ask what ranks up there with it.
