Douglas Wilson referred to a ‘church splant’, which is “a combination of church split and church plant”.
The ‘church splanting’ spirit needs to be carefully governed.
Works which begin because of a negative reaction to something that has happened elsewhere can adopt a needlessly combative or self-justifying culture.
This can apply to either a ‘our former church is liberal and apostate’ or ‘our former church is orthodox, but to the detriment of their outreach focus’ splant.
Blessed are the group who seek and receive the blessing and release of their former church family when they embark on a new plant.
Then the only baggage they have to carry is the Gospel imperative.
