Given their youthful target audience and the fact that the novels have produced a successful motion picture franchise the books are seen as a successor to Harry Potter.
This article, published in Touchstone magazine, contends that they are actually an apologetic of sorts for the author’s Mormon religious faith, which makes them a thematic successor to the Chronicles of Narnia.
My daughter, who hates the novels with the blazing energy of a thousand suns read somewhere that ‘Edward’ (whoever that is) represents some red-headed mormon prophet , while ‘Bella’ (whoever she is) actually represents the author.
Eww.
Robert Pattinson, one of the stars of the Twilight movie has his own interpretation of their meaning, which provides an interesting contrast with the thesis presented in the Touchstone article.
Having read the books would help in determining whether the assertions made in the article are true.
But really, I’m not going to read them. Nope. Not me.
You guys figure it out.
I’m just throwing this out there… Hayden Pantierre would’ve made a great Bella Swan. http://bit.ly/4G5pT1
I’ll take your word for it…
