For those interested in East Timor and Roger Bannister, I spoke to Roger tonight. He feels very blessed to be able to participate in the teaching mission, and knows it is absolutely the right place for him to be at this time. Without me being particularly concious of it, the fact that a ruling elder is accompanying two teaching elders is a very useful illustration of the biblical and presbyterian form of church government.
David Burke’s teaching on the Westminster Confession and related issues of church structure and doctrine have been well received.
Tomorrow the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Timor Leste will consider a draft Constitution and probably also consider formal adoption of a Confessional standard.
Again, Roger feels very privileged to be present there at such an important time in the new church’s life. Pray that there will be much unity in purpose for these fellow believers.
Rob Duncanson will preach (probably in Dili) on Sunday and is taking millions of photographs.
Hi, thanks for sharing this – I have printed out both blogs on East Timor to pass on to Jim and others.
Not only was it GREAT to have RB the second there as an elder, but DB being from another country brought out the repeated phrase “presbyterian churches in Australia, Singapore, Brazil ….”. It helped to make them feel a part of a very broad PC family.
